Black superhero comedy show fans The young have much to celebrate after it was all but confirmed that the upcoming season of the Amazon Prime Video smash hit won’t be the last.
Featuring a satirical look at modern America and a clever take on familiar comic book archetypes. The young first hit screens in 2019 and over the course of three seasons has grown into one of the best Prime Video shows.
Filming for the fourth season has been underway for a few months with showrunner Eric Kripke on Sunday on Twitter (opens in new tab) to reveal that filming of her finale would begin in Toronto.
A number of concerned fans then questioned Kripke if he thought the show as a whole was coming to an end, before reassuring them with the news they were hoping for.
Because you ask! We’ve been shooting since the end of August. I’m here to prepare and direct the season 4 finale. No, not the series finale, there will be more! Most importantly, S4 will premiere… sometime in the future in our recognizable reality. @PrimeVideo @SPTV https://t.co/UgNBPZKlCTFebruary 12, 2023
Previously, Kripke announced in his chronicle that the S4 finale episode would be titled “Assassination Run,” adding that it would likely premiere later this year.
Analysis: Prime Video is right to keep a good thing going
While it’s a welcome relief to fans, the news that we’re expecting more of Karl Urban growling the C-word every few minutes shouldn’t come as a huge surprise.
They like The terminal list And reachers have all enjoyed huge viewership over the past few months, but there’s a real shortage of calling-card shows on Amazon Prime right now compared to rivals Netflix, Disney Plus, and the growing slate of quality content on Apple TV Plus.
No better illustration of The young Breakout hit status and its significance for Amazon came with the release of figures from data insights firm Nielsen last month, revealing that the show had surpassed all of Marvel Studios’ Disney+ series and became the most-watched superhero program of the last year became.
Ranked as the 11th most-watched original streaming show of any genre in 2022, despite being behind ten notable Netflix titles, the show still managed to beat big guns like Disney Plus moon knight, Mrs Miracle And She Hulk as well as Amazon’s own super-budget Tolkien epic The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
Upcoming superhero school spin-off series Gen V will probably keep fans of The young busy in the meantime, but Amazon execs will no doubt be counting down the days until the next run of the main show is ready and giving Prime a much-needed boost over the other best streaming services.
