CBS is ordering four new series, including MATLOCK Reboot starring Kathy Bates and a spinoff of THE GOOD WIFE starring Carrie Preston — GeekTyrant

CBS has ordered two “new” series for its network, including a remake of the crime thriller classic from the 1980s and 90s Matlockstarring the Oscar and Emmy winner Kathy Bates (misery, Richard Jewel, American Horror Story) in the lead role, as well as a spin-off of The good wife with Carrie Prestonwho starred in the original series The good wifeas well as True Blood.

The new version of Matlock date back to Jennie Snyder Urman, who will write and execute the pilot under her Sutton Street Productions banner. Bates will also serve as executive producer in addition to starring. Sutton Street’s Joanna Klein will also executive produce, along with Eric Christian Olsen and John Will. Sutton Street is currently under an overall deal with CBS Studios, which will produce the pilot.

According to the show’s official logline: “Having found success at a young age, the brilliant seventy-year-old Madeline Matlock (Bates) rejoins the staff of a prestigious law firm, where she uses her humble demeanor and cunning tactics to win cases win and uncover corruption within. Based on the classic television series of the same name.”

The good wife Spinoff bears the title Elsbethnamed after Preston’s character Elsbeth Tascioni, who she played in both The good wife and streaming series The Good Fight.

Elsbeth is written by The good wife and The Good Fight Creator Robert and Michelle King, with Robert also directing the pilot. The Kings and Liz Glotzer are executive producers through King Size Productions. CBS Studios also produces Elsbethwith the kings there also under an overall agreement.

On the show, “Elsbeth Tascioni (Preston), a sharp but unconventional attorney, uses her unique vantage point after a successful career in Chicago to make unique observations and corner brilliant criminals alongside the NYPD.”

In addition to the two pilot assignments, CBS is also opening writers’ rooms on two drama projects for potential serial picking for the 2024–2025 season.

The first of these projects bears the title watson. Inspired by the characters from Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes mysteries, the show is a contemporary take on the character of Dr. watson And that’s despite the fact that CBS previously aired the modern Sherlock Holmes series Elementary Starring Johnny Lee Miller as Holmes and Lucy Liu as Watson, this show is a completely new and original project.

In the new show, “Shortly after the death of his friend and partner Sherlock Holmes at the hands of Moriarty, Dr. John Watson resumes his medical career as head of a clinic dedicated to the treatment of rare genetic disorders, only to uncover a chilling secret that puts him back in Moriarty’s crosshairs.”

Finally, CBS develops the medical drama The pact from Writer and Executive Producer Marcus Dalzine. The series is based on the book The Pact: Three young men make a promise and fulfill a dream from dr Samson Davis, dr George Jenkinsand dr Rameck huntwith Lisa Frazier Page.

The logline states, “After a childhood pact led three friends from downtown Newark to become physicians, they reunite in their hometown to open a medical center to serve their community.”
